                                    1.
This Photo of me was taken by Catherine Lang (1995), a photographer attending SCAD while I was there. She did a series of photos of artists and there inspirations. I chose to hold a photo of my mom on steps of a Savannah porch that is very similar to sitting on my grammy Blades front porch steps in Bain Town, Nassau, Bahamas.

                                    2.
This is my favorite photo of my mom that my 'Daddy Carl' gave me at age 12 when I was told that she died in childbirth with me.  He also told me that he was not my uncle but he was really my dad.

                                    3.
More photos of my mom Lillian Blades whom I was named after.

                                    4.
My paternal aunt, Violet Ellis, is really my mom who raised me from birth and who I call mommy to this day.

                                    5.
I think I was about 2 in this photo and remember the  photographer under black fabric trying to make me smile. Mom kept telling me to stop digging  my foot in the sofa. My sister Cheri Benjamin is in the photo next to me with an  urn I eventually broke while playing.

                                    6.
TF- My maternal (Lillian Blades) grandmother, Olive Orita Moss.

TR- My only blood sibling, Carl Blades, who is 6 years older than me.
BL- My mom and dad sipping colas in matching outfits my mom made.
BR- My mom and brother 'Carly'. The sad thing is that after mom died during my birth, Carly and was known to me as my cousin until age 12.

                                    7.
I drew this in 1989 from a photo of my mommy Violet Ellis and her oldest son, Keith Ellis. She was so proud that she had it framed and it still hangs  by the front door at home in Nassau, Bahamas.

                                    8.
In 1994, I painted it in oils while at SCAD. Mom helped me in entitling it, 'Guiding Hands'.  Which is so fitting since she has a home daycare.

                                    9.
This is a sketch that shows my Aunt Violet 'mommy' receiving me from birth from my mom, Lillian Blades before she passed. She knew she was having a girl but she never saw me.  She asked my aunt to promise to take care of me.

                                    10.
I painted this from that sketch.  My Art History study abroad (Italy/France) classes focused on Italian Renaissance Painting and  the predella cartoon scene  showing the afterlife or spirit world is a direct influence.

                                    11.
I early/mid 90's while studing art at The College of The Bahamas and SCAD (Savannah) I painted lots of 'Mother and Child' images in various styles. This one from 1992 is influenced by Picasso's Blue Period which I felt was his more emotional period.

                                    12.

This one shows a single pregnant Bahamain woman with her young son.
