                                    'Hopscotch Project'

While reflecting on the games I enjoyed playing as a child, I thought of Hopscotch and realized that it not as popular as it used to be among kids. I wanted to recapture this classic game in a new and exciting way that can be a little more permanent than a drawing in the dirt with a stick.  I noticed that most kids hung around the playground area mainly, but I thought something like this would provide an extra incentive for them to engage more of the park.

Hopscotch reminds me of a liner quilted patchwork in progress, which appealed to the way I currently work as an artist. I saw that this would also be an excellent way to celebrate and frame each participants painted contributions. There would be signage that explains the game as well as list each participant and their numbered square. The end results would be a colorful and inviting sidewalk painting that doubles as a game that frames the gazebo and is visible to those driving and walking by on the side streets.
